… NURSES IN FAVOR OF DEVICE INTEROPERABILITY: A new survey from Gary and Mary West Health Institute, conducted by Harris Poll, shows that many nurses believe medical errors could be reduced if the medical devices used by hospitals were connected to enable more information sharing. Of the 500 nurses who participated in the poll, half said they had “witnessed a medical error resulting from a lack of coordination among devices in a hospital setting.” In addition, 60 percent of respondents felt that these errors could be reduced if medical devices such as infusion pumps, ventilators and blood pressure cuffs were able to share data automatically.
