The Wests were recognized by the hospital for their dedication to improving care for seniors.
On March 6, I had the honor of accepting an award from the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital at its fourth annual Circle of Life Gala in New York City on behalf of our founders, Gary and Mary West.

In particular, Mount Sinai highlighted the West Health Institute’s leadership in helping establish a national geriatric emergency department collaborative that will be announced in further detail soon.

We were also recognized for our Emergency Department-to-Home research pillar work where we brought together a diverse group of healthcare leaders to implement a national action plan to enable more seniors to safely go home after an emergency room visit, rather than be admitted into the hospital.

Our joint research to develop an online training resource for family caregivers was also celebrated, in addition to our work focused on developing a new model of community-based palliative care which includes home visits and telemedicine support.

We are so grateful for our esteemed collaborators such as The Mount Sinai Hospital that enable us to further our research in successful aging, enabling seniors to live their lives on their own terms, with access to high-quality health and support services that preserve and protect their dignity, quality of life and independence.
